One of the most hotly anticipated speakers at the 2013 Journalism Week at Leeds Trinity University has to be Sky Sports presenter Jeff Stelling.

Mr Stelling is the anchor of the hugely popular Soccer Saturday show and has had a storied career in the media, including hosting daytime quiz show Countdown.

Mike Best, senior lecturer at Leeds Trinity University, said: “He will be able to illustrate how you can cope with a programme that lasts several hours and is completely unpredictable.”

Mr Stelling started his career as a journalist at the Hartlepool Mail before moving on to radio where he covered Middlesbrough FC for Radio Tees.

His career then took him to BBC Radio’s Sport On 2, TV-am, Channel 4 and Eurosport before eventually joining Sky in 1992.

Mr Best added: “He has created a unique brand with both himself and his fellow presenters watching matches on the monitors as opposed to being there.”

The reaction from students and members of staff around Leeds Trinity University has been that of excitement.

Jon Cronshaw, 30, a post graduate student at the university said: “Since I’m not really a sports fan, I’d be more curious about his Countdown work and how I could meet the lovely Rachel.”
